SERPA
The Southeast Roundtable on Philosophy of the Americas (SERPA) meets annually to provide an informal, helpful atmosphere for presenting work-in-progress in the areas of American/the Americas and pragmatist philosophy. UNC Charlotte’s philosophy department includes five fulltime faculty members who work in American philosophies—with an emphasis on the plurality and diversity of the field—and we are excited to collaborate with faculty and graduate students in the region.
The tenth annual SERPA meeting will be on September 20, 2024. Scholars from anywhere in the nation (even the world!) are invited to participate, and we especially hope that people in the U.S. Southeast and/or within driving distance of Charlotte, NC, will submit and attend. The tentative schedule is: roundtable paper presentations from 9:00am to 5:30pm (with a break for lunch); a reception from 5:30pm to 6:30pm; and then dinner as a group afterwards.
There is no particular theme or special topic for the meeting. Reading time for accepted papers should be 20–25 minutes. Graduate students and junior faculty are particularly encouraged to submit and attend. There is no registration fee or formal registration process. To submit, please send a 100-word abstract, suitable for anonymous review, to Dr. Mark Sanders. To attend without presenting, please send an e-mail to Dr. Sanders notifying him of your intent. The application deadline is June 30, 2024.
